Heathrow airport will start preparatory work on the third runway following the Airport Commission’s recommendation earlier this month. The government will make a decision in the autumn and the airport will be hopeful the verdict goes their way.
The Airport Commission’s recommendation stated that a 3rd runway at Heathrow would be their chosen option for airport expansion in the UK. This will see the airport transformed into two main terminals and transport hubs – Heathrow West (Terminal 5 and a new Terminal 6) and Heathrow East (an extended Terminal 2) – connected by an underground passenger transit and baggage system.
Whilst the politicians decide what the future holds for the world’s largest international airport there’s plenty to do across the campus. Working with Fujitsu, CCMs team on site continue to deliver improvements to the existing IT network infrastructure, notably on the critical communications links via the radio and cellular projects. The team has grown rapidly over the last two months to 22 with additional team members being recruited in the coming weeks.
Mark Stannard CCM Site leads said “the prospect of being involved in this extensive expansion programme at Heathrow over the next 10 – 15 years is a an exciting one. The team have worked really hard to achieve great things with Fujitsu here at the airport and we all relish the opportunity to continue the journey!”
