A team of amateur but enthusiastic volunteer gardeners spent a Saturday at St Matthias Church, Poplar earlier this month to help out with a community garden project for a local charity, Poplar Neighbours, and what a day it was! The sun was shining and it was a huge success; borders were built, weeds were dug up, benches painted and plants planted. Some of us discovered talents we never knew we had! It turned out to be a big family day, with mums, dads and children coming along to lend their support and help out. Sister Christine supplied the troops with a constant supply of tea and biscuits and we even got to try some traditional East End pie and mash for lunch! A real fun day and a huge success.
Poplar Neighbours were incredibly grateful for all our hard work and felt sure that the community will be delighted with how well we have transformed their garden. A worthy cause, great fun and great work by everyone from CCM who came along.
